The latest update for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the MMORPG from Electronic Arts, is out today and it brings a number of bug fixes and a new looting system.
In the galaxy of Star Wars: The Old Republic, it’s patch day, and GU 6.3.2 is on the way. It’s not the most thrilling patch ever, but given that the Legacy of the Sith expansion is still due later this year, you probably didn’t expect it to be.
The patch notes contain a huge number of bug patches and general quality-of-life enhancements, including currency tweaks, world boss drops, guild flagship hooks, and flashpoint improvements. “The reading lamp in the Organa Castle on Alderaan is no longer floating above the bedside table,” we know everyone was asking for. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the list is the revamp of group loot:
“Currently, SWTOR offers two loot options: Master Loot, which allows the party leader to choose who receives each piece of gear, and Group Loot, which requires members of the party to roll on gear and the highest roll wins. This has resulted in unwelcome friction throughout the loot process, therefore we’re aiming to create a more efficient system that eliminates poor player experiences and potentially dangerous actions. To do so, we’ll be deleting the Master Loot system and replacing it with what we’re dubbing the Personal Loot system. This implies that whatever equipment you obtain will be immediately added to your inventory. There will be no more rolling dice or picking winners for prizes. We’re working on improving the loot experience for all players as part of our modernization efforts. There have been reports of organizations using the Master Loot mechanism to distribute goods. We want to reassure you that, as a result of these changes, gear will still be tradeable inside your group for two hours, and chat logs will still show who got what. During the Onslaught expansion, we took a first step toward Personal Loot by giving gear based on your discipline. This has worked effectively, promoting a positive player experience, and we want to keep improving on it. As we approach our tenth anniversary, Patch 6.3.2 will be the next step along that path.”
On August 31, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. CT (13:00 – 16:00 a.m. UTC), we will be taking the servers offline to deliver Game Update 6.3.2. On Monday, a complete collection of patch notes will be available here: https://t.co/yejQBRRbDD.
