Review of Drift King
Drifting reigns supreme in this title, as its name suggests. It’s not about crossing the finish line; it’s all about landing the perfect skid while looking stylish. The flexible controls assist to make this idea a reality; players will be sliding down each track without exerting too much effort.
Of course, landing each skid is a another matter altogether. The longer one wanders, the more points one accumulates and the multiplier increases. Crashing into a barrier or going off-road, on the other hand, will result in a severe penalty, destroying all of your hard work.
Scoring, on the other hand, takes a cue from Who’s Line Is It Anyway, where everything goes and the points don’t count. Although we hate to say it, some of our drifts resulted in us crashing into a concrete barrier, earning us a nice 10,000 points in the process. It’s inconvenient, and the whole score system might need some work.
However, one aspect of this game that players will be able to customize is their vehicles. In its garage, staples like the MX5 and 190E are joined by “Muscle Car #1” and “Muscle Car #2,” each with its own set of features that may be tweaked. Cambers, suspension offsets, grip, and counter steering may all be adjusted to your liking, but we didn’t detect much of a change on the course.
This lack of variation is reflected in the various tunes. Test Drive Mode, Circuit Mode, Endless Mode, and Mountain Mode are all available in Drift King as of this writing. While they all seem to have a lot of difference at first sight, the goal of drifting for a certain length of time is the same.
The amount of unlocking required to see everything is also outrageous — players must utilize money earned from successful runs on different courses and vehicles to unlock new tracks and automobiles. While this encourages replayability, there is just too much to unlock over the game’s several courses. Furthermore, a few of the tunes, such as “Test Playground” and “Greece,” are devoid of individuality.
Drift King, on the other hand, is aimless when it comes to deciding what it wants to concentrate on. Players may choose manual or automatic transmission, their area, and even the amount of smoke opacity, yet it manages to overlook some of the most fundamental things that should be included in a game of this kind.
