Game development studios are notorious for overselling their projects, which leads to delays, especially when they have to get the game out the door for a major release. Conan Chop Chop studio has been hit by another delay, leaving the game out of their scheduled release window, and the studio has now finally acknowledged and apologized for this delay.

The studio responsible for the Wii U eShop title Conan Chop Chop has finally acknowledged and apologized for the latest delay, which it didn’t want to announce a last week. While the studio would have preferred to announce the new release date itself, it believed waiting until it was ready would have led to a rushed product that would not live up to the high standards set by the brilliant title.

The makers of Conan Chop Chop have finally acknowledged and apologized for the latest delay of the game. This might not be the case for everyone, but for those that are lucky enough to have a copy of the game with them, this is a very welcome development. In a statement, the developers have noted that the delay had been due to the fact that they had not been able to secure the rights to the characters they had been using in the game. With that out of the way, the game is set to hit the stores on June 28th this year. There had been a lot of issues with its release earlier this year, and this delay will likely mean that anyone that has been waiting for the game will have to wait a little longer.

A few weeks ago we pointed out thatConan Chop Chop, a Mighty Kingdom game published by Funcom, was long overdue. The OARPG roguelike was announced in 2019, but the studios delayed the game from September 2019 to 2020 to add full online multiplayer, then to February 2020, then to Q2 2020, then to the end of 2020, then to early 2021. We’re in mid-July, well into 2021. As mentioned, neither company has said anything about the game since last December, though MOP reader Jack noted that the company briefly mentioned the game in its June investor update as a possible Q3 release. But this information has not been published anywhere by Mighty Kingdom or Funcom after last December’s promises.

Now, all these months later, the studios have finally announced it in a bizarre press release that isn’t even signed, so we’re not sure which company issued the mea culpa, but it’s the mea culpa because the teams have said they won’t announce a new release date until the film is completely finished.

As the observant among you will have noticed, we are well past the beginning of 2021 and Conan Chop Chop is still not out. We’ve reached the point where we need to reassure people that the game is real, that it’s in development and that it’s not just another April 1 joke. Conan Chop Chop passed console certification earlier this year and was just a click away from downloadability on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. However, some traditions are not easy to break. Testing of the game revealed that there was still room for improvement in the gameplay, causing Mighty Kingdom’s developer and publisher, Funcom, to postpone the game’s release once again.

And while we are aware that some people will be disappointed by this news, or even a little confused, we assure you that the positives outweigh the negatives. Just as one of our first delays had to do with adding online multiplayer to Conan Chop Chop, all of our other delays had to do with improving the game, whether it was adding new features or changing existing ones. We also don’t want the evolution of the game to lead to unnecessary fatigue.

So, yes. We have not kept our promise and we are very sorry about that. However, this time we can absolutely guarantee that there will be no further announcements of delays. Why? Because this time we will not announce a new release date until the game is finished, tested, certified and ready to be launched. And because our speaker was deferred, he was promised that it would not be a permanent job.
